Thoughs about drafting

Let's talk draft strategies. It is important to have some sort of strategy when you show up to your draft. The best way to build a strategy is to do your research and practice. The most important part of your strategy should be your research. Your research should give you a good foundation and a good idea of player value. I have seen plenty of drafts where people have abandoned their strategies by the second round. That's why I think it's important to have an overall strategy and not a specific strategy. You should tailor your strategy to your point system in your league rules. One thing you can do is put players into groups. Go through every position and rank players according to your rankings. Then go back through and sort them into groups. The best way to do this is to take projections and tailor them to your point system. Using groups will help you determine a players value during your draft. The key to winning your league is getting value in every draft position. Your number one pick is not going to determine whether you win your league or not. Most leauges are won in the mid-to late round picks. Position scarcity is also another thing that should help you develop your strategy. If there is a huge drop-off in position, chances are, people will go after the top few players a lot earlier than they should. You should use this to your advantage and try to find one of those players in that position that will give you above average value. Most of the time when run on a position starts everybody jumps on, because they don't want to get a week player. If you know the number 18 guy will give you almost the same production as the number seven guy you can wait to draft this position and capitalize on a better value in another position. This is where doing your research is very important. Don't let the draft dictate your team, let your strategy do it.
